Christmas Cantata returns to Saxonburg church
SAXONBURG — Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church will host its 2019 Christmas Cantata at 7 p.m. Saturday inside the newer church building facing Main Street, located at 100 W. Main St.
The community is invited to hear the sounds of Christmas as the SMPC Festival Choir and Orchestra welcomes attendees in the spirit of the holidays.
The concert is the church's gift to the community, said Dan Byerly, director of music ministry for the church.
“The church is looking forward to sharing the biblical message of Christmas with everyone who joins us,” Byerly said. “Sharing the story of Christmas as it was first told in the Bible, leaving behind the modern day commercialism and business and remembering why the holiday and season are celebrated in the first place.”
An 18-piece orchestra and 43-voice choir will perform a mix of original music in addition to old favorites and songs of the season. Toward the end of the performance, attendees are invited to sing along to a variety of Christmas carols. The last Christmas concert hosted by the church was in 2016, Byerly said, adding that bringing back the event is exciting.Byerly thanked everyone involved who has helped to make the event happen this year.People who come here will be excited about what they hear,” he said.Dress rehearsal for the choir and orchestra was Wednesday evening in preparation for the event. For more information visit the church's Facebook page at @saxonburgmpc.
