Motorists met by winter preview with first icy roads of the season
Some motorists were slip, sliding away this morning as the season's first icy roads struck Butler County.
A number of minor accidents, mostly fender-fenders, began around 6 a.m., according to the Butler County 911 center.
“There were quite a few,” said one dispatcher. “Mostly in the southern part of the county.”
But only one reported crash, a two-vehicle accident on Route 228 and Highpointe Drive in Seven Fields, required transport to the hospital for a minor injury.
A call about 7:25 a.m. from Cranberry Township reported that “Marshall Road is a sheet of ice.”
A short time later the Cranberry Township road crew was requested to treat the slippery intersection at Marshall and Goehring Road.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh is calling for a slight chance of snow showers before 3 p.m. today with a high near 33.
The forecast for tonight is mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Saturday is to be partly sunny, with a high near 40.
