Red Barn wraps up season with comedy 'Sunshine Boys'

Mary Cameron of Zelienople and Phillip Clark Jr. of New Castle rehearse for the Red Barn Players production of “The Sunshine Boys.” The comedy opens Sept. 13.

FRANKLIN TWP, Beaver County — The Red Barn Players will close their 65th season of summer theater with the Neil Simon comedy “The Sunshine Boys” starting Sept. 13.

“The Sunshine Boys,” directed by Paul Angelucci of New Castle, centers on Willie Clark and Al Lewis, the once top-billed vaudeville act of “Lewis and Clark” for more than 40 years.

Now they aren’t even speaking to each other, not for the past 12 years.

When a television station requests them for a “History of Comedy” retrospective, a grudging reunion brings the two back together, along with a flood of memories, miseries and laughs.

The story follows the attempt to reunite the two for the TV reunion.

Playing the lead roles in “The Sunshine Boys” are Don Pepe of Harmony as Al Lewis and Phillip Clark Jr. of New Castle as Willie Clark.

The cast also includes Mary Cameron of Zelienople, David Cary of Conway, Donald Pletz of North Sewickley Township, Paul Angelucci of New Castle, and Tammy Erkman of Ellwood City.

The show runs Sept. 13-14, 19-21 and 26-28 at the Red Barn Theatre, 1279 Route 288.

Shows are at 8 p.m. and tickets, which are $13, are available at www.redbarnplayers.com.
