Police ID, arrest suspect in death of Venango County woman

FRANKLIN, Venango County — A Venango County man has been detained by authorities in Missouri in the suspicious death of a woman discovered at the man’s home in Polk Borough.

State Police at the Franklin station charged Clayton J. Hindman, 48, on Thursday with aggravated assault, possession of a crime instrument with intent, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person after police found a badly decomposed body in Hindman’s Polk home. Police said in a criminal complaint that they believe the dead woman is Salina Poppy Chilson, a 38-year-old Parker resident who was reported missing on July 3.

Police went to Hindman’s Polk home on Thursday after Hindman’s daughter asked troopers to check on her father’s welfare. They saw his motorcycle outside the residence, but his truck was missing. The door to the home on Hillcrest Avenue was locked and police noted a “foul odor” coming from inside. A landlord let them in, and they discovered a woman’s body, who police note is suspected to be Chilson, covered in a blanket down to the knees.

Hindman turned himself in to the Ava County Sheriff’s office in Missouri after he discovered police wanted to speak with him. He awaits a preliminary hearing.
