Police: Woman falsified service

A Butler woman is accused of falsifying her community service records to show hours of work at a church that she did not perform.

Donna J. Neely, 60, of Butler is due in Butler County Court next month for a probation violation hearing in connection with the alleged deception.

She is also set to face a separate hearing on a criminal charge for the alleged chicanery.

County detectives charged Neely on Tuesday with a misdemeanor count of unsworn falsification to authorities, accusing her of trying to get out of court-ordered service at the Center City Baptist Church in Butler.

In March, the defendant was sentenced to serve a combined 12 months of probation and 50 hours of community service stemming from guilty pleas to theft by deception and disorderly conduct in separate criminal cases dating to 2017.

On June 25, authorities said, Neely submitted a community service slip to the county probation office showing she had performed 113 hours at the church between December and May.

The slip appeared to include the signature of a church official.

However, when a probation officer contacted her, the church official advised that she had not signed the slip, charging documents said. She also informed the officer that Neely had only completed four or five hours of service.

Court records showed her preliminary hearing on her latest charge is scheduled for Aug. 12. Her probation violation is scheduled the same day.

Online records did not list an attorney for Neely, who could not be reached for comment Friday.
