An engine was ejected during a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon Route 422 that left the driver of one of the cars injured, according to police and fire crews on scene.

The crash occurred shortly about 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 422 and Clearfield Road. Traffic traveling in both directions on the road was closed until around 5:15 p.m.

“This is a pretty cut and dry one. They collided, that’s all,” said East Butler Fire Chief Derek Thompson.

The crash happened between a minivan and a pickup truck hauling a trailer with a farm tractor and side-by-side off-road vehicle. Thompson said the female driver of the minivan was transported from the scene with minor injuries, adding that she was the only person in the vehicle. The trailer flipped completely over in the wreck with the side-by-side underneath it.

Thompson further noted that the male driver of the pickup truck and his passenger both denied medical attention at the scene.

The main cause for the prolonged road closure was that the minivan’s engine came out of the vehicle during the impact and was leaking fluids in the middle of Route 422, and the farm tractor broke loose from the trailer and was also blocking traffic. Crews from the Herman Volunteer Fire Company drizzled Oil Dry, which they described as a glorified form of cat littler, to absorb the engine’s fluids.

The accident was being handled by the State police. No names were immediately available.
