SLIPPERY ROCK — The Butler County Community College golf team won the Region XX Tournament Tuesday at Oakview Golf Club.

The Pioneers tallied 670 for the 36-hole event, finishing 16 strokes in front of Anne Arundel. Tucker Skerbetz carded a 159 to finish second among individual golfers. Carmen Oliva finished fifth with a 164, A-C Valley graduate Noah Morgan 10th with a 172.

BC3 will compete in the Division III National Championships June 2-7 at the Chautauqua Golf Club in New York.

YOUNGSTOWN — Knoch graduate Dylan Swarmer, a freshman catcher on the Youngstown State baseball team, has been named to the Horizon League's All-Freshman Team.Swarmer hit .247 with two homers and 12 RBI. He hit three triples and caught 10 runners trying to steal.

KOSICE, Slovakia — Pierre-Luc Dubois scored early to back the shutout goaltending of Matt Murray, sending Canada past the United States 3-0 on Tuesday at the world hockey championship. Both teams already were assured quarterfinal berths.Canada won Group A and will next play Switzerland. The Americans, who had five won straight, will face the high-scoring and undefeated Russians on Thursday.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A person familiar with the situation says the New England Patriots have reached an agreement on a two-year extension with receiver Julian Edelman.The deal is worth $18 million and includes an $8 million signing bonus and $12 million in guaranteed money.

MILWAUKEE — NL MVP Christian Yelich was scratched from Milwaukee’s lineup against Cincinnati on Tuesday night because of back spasms.Yelich leads the major leagues with 19 homers.
