Walter, Dandoy advance to Nov.

Republican Butler City Councilman Michael Walter and Democrat Bob Dandoy won their party nominations in Tuesday's primary to run for two seats on council in the Nov. 5 general election.

Walter, who is running for a second four-year term on council, defeated challenger Travis Uhl in a 539-463 vote, according to unofficial results.

Dandoy ran unopposed on the Democratic ballot.

Democratic Councilman Corey Roche is not running for a second term.

Walter serves as the director of accounts and finance.

He said the city is in better financial condition now than when he first took office and he wants to work toward further improvement.

Dandoy is a retired teacher and former member of Butler Downtown.

A lifelong city resident, Dandoy was president and a board member of Butler Downtown, which administered the Main Street revitalization program, and served on the design committee, which ran the business facade improvement program and worked on other projects.

He worked with the National Council of Teachers of English and was president and executive director of the PA Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts, for which he serves as treasurer.

He was a teacher at Karns City High School for 31 years, a part-time instructor at Butler County Community College for 20 years and a faculty member at Slippery Rock University for seven years in the English department and College of Education.

Dandoy graduated from Clarion University with a bachelor's degree, received a master's degree from Slippery Rock University and did additional graduate work at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
