Emlenton lumber store catches fire

A number of fire departments including several from Butler County are at a lumber store on Main Street in Emlenton where flames broke out this morning.

The fire at McNany Lumber is reportedly under control, according to witnesses. It was not immediately known if anyone was in the store or if anyone was injured.

The call came in about 7:25 a.m. for a structure fire on the 300 block of Main Street, authorities said. The Chicora Volunteer Fire Department was called out for its ladder truck.

A Butler County 911 dispatcher said the Eau Claire and Bruin volunteer fire departments were called to assist with manpower and the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department was sent with a tanker.

The fire was apparently quickly knocked down

“The flames are out,” Mary Rhoads, a receptionist at a nearby dental office on the 300 block of Main Street, said shortly after 8 a.m. “All I see now is smoke.”

She and other witnesses reported the street was packed with fire trucks. The extent of the damage was unknown.

“There are charred parts on the left front (of the two-story building) where the office is,” Rhoads said. “But there does not seem to be a lot of visible damage.”
