JEFFERSON TWP — Route 356 is closed after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Route 356 and Simon Drive in the township.

The accident occurred when the driver of an Acura attempted to cross Route 356 from Simon Drive to Caldwell Drive and was struck on the passenger side by a dump truck, according to state police.

The man driving the Acura suffered what were described as significant facial injuries, according to police, and was drifting in and out of consciousness at the scene. Police say he was flown to Allegheny General Hospital.
