Defense keys Knoch girls hoop triumph

Defense can go a long way.

Burrell was held to 11 points over the final three quarters Monday night as Knoch raced to a 40-22 section girls basketball victory on the road.

The Knights (6-4, 4-1) received 15 points from Skylar Burkett and nine from Lauren Cihonski. They outscored the Bucs 11-2 in the final quarter.

Kaylen Sharrow scored 16 of Burrell's 22 points.

Freeport 34, Apollo-Ridge 28 — The host Yellowjackets (8-2, 4-1) prevailed in this defensive battle. No other details were available.

Boys Basketball

Slippery Rock 78, George Junior Republic 66 — The Rockets scored 30 points in the fourth quarter to win going away in this Saturday game. Logan Croll scored 33 points, including 14 in the final period.

Mitch Houston scored 19 points, 12 in the fourth quarter. Ethan Plesakov had 15 for the Rockets.

Bekk McClaine and Bennett Thrash both scored twice for the Golden Tornado (4-5-2).

Ronan Miller added a goal and four assists.
