[naviga:h3]Triple-double for Burdett paces BC3[/naviga:h3]

Knoch graduate Carly Burdett had a triple-double as the Butler County Community College women’s basketball team downed Prince George 79-70.

Burdett scored 21 points and added 15 rebounds and 10 assists for the Pioneers, who trailed by 12 at the half but rallied for the win.

Karns City graduate Mackenzie Craig scored 34 points and added 19 rebounds for BC3.

On the men’s side, Butler graduates Jace Stutz and Joel Stutz scored 25 and 22 points respectively in the Pioneers’ 102-62 loss to Prince George.

[naviga:h3]BC3’s Craig grabs All-American honor[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College sophomore and Karns City graduate Mackenzie Craig has been named NJCAA Division III All-American in vollevball.

Craig amassed 561 assists and 77 service aces for the Pioneers (19-7), who went on to win Region XX.

Craig is 118 points shy of Julia Baxter’s BC3 women’s basketball scoring record as well. She has 953 career points.

Craig is BC3’s fourth All-American in two years, joining Brittany Bianco (volleyball), Nikki Houk (softball) and Baxter.

[naviga:h3]Mars grad Brake named All-ECAC[/naviga:h3]

GROVE CITY — Mars graduate and Grove City College sophomore punter Caleb Brake has been named second team All-ECAC Division III.

Brake led the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in punting, averaging 38.8 yards. He only had two touchbacks and placed eight punts inside the opposing 20-yard line.

GCC running back Wesley Schools and receiver Cody Gustafson made first team All-ECAC.

[naviga:h3]Former SRU assistant in MLB[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Former Slippery Rock University pitching coach John Kovalick has been hired by the Houston Astros to work with pitchers in their minor league system.

Kovalick pitched for The Rock from 2011-14, finishing 11-11 with 16 saves and 98 strikeouts. He was SRU’s pitching coach the past two seasons.

MIAMI — A person familiar with the move says the NFL has fined umpire Roy Ellison $9,300 and reinstated him from administrative leave after his dispute with Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes.
