Fatima Ali

NEW YORK — Former “Top Chef” Fatima Ali says she has a year to live.

The 29-year-old underwent surgery to remove a tumor in January. However, Ali wrote Tuesday in an essay for Bon Appetit that the “cancer cells my doctors believed had vanished are back with a vengeance in my left hip and femur bone.”

Ali says her oncologist told her she has a year to live, “with or without the new chemotherapy regimen.”

She writes she used to dream of owning her own restaurant. Now she has a growing list of restaurants to visit and is “sketching a plan” to eat her way through New York.

Ali says “every day is an opportunity for me to experience something new.”

Ali appeared on Season 15 of the Bravo series.

PHILADELPHIA — Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns is being honored in Philadelphia with an award from the Museum of the American Revolution.

The museum announced Thursday that Burns will receive the Gerry Lenfest Spirit of the American Revolution Award. The museum says the award honors Burns' “lifetime of work advancing understanding of our national history and revolutionary spirit.”

The medal and $25,000 prize will be presented at a private event at the museum April 11.

The museum's chairman emeritus H.F. Lenfest, who died in August, created the award to recognize distinguished achievement in advancing public awareness and understanding of history and of its relevance in the “American experiment.”

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump welcomed musicians Kid Rock and country star John Rich to the White House on Thursday as he signed legislation overhauling the way music is licensed and songwriters compensated.

Trump signed the Orrin Hatch Music Modernization Act on Thursday. The bill won wide bipartisan support in the House and Senate and is backed by the music industry. It's named after the retiring Utah senator, who is also a musician.
