Zelienople to take part in flood study
ZELIENOPLE — A study of what's causing Connoquenessing Creek flooding is in the works, with municipalities impacted by the floods chipping in to fund it.
On Monday, Zelienople council voted to contribute to the study, which is aimed at addressing what officials called a “long-standing problem” with flooding along the waterway.
A preliminary analysis identified impediments in the creek channel, such as a pier on a bridge on Route 19 in Jackson Township.
Further study would prioritize remedies and rerun hydraulic models to find where the next obstructions would be.
The cost of the study is about $20,000 and would be shared by Zelienople, Harmony, Jackson Township and a regional sewage authority.
