Route 19 crash snarls traffic

No injuries were reported from an accident Thursday morning on Route 19 in Cranberry Township.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP — An accident Thursday slowed the morning commute on Route 19 in Cranberry Township.

The accident was reported just before 7 a.m. and involved a car and a box truck traveling in the southbound lane.

The truck pulled out of a business heading south, according to Sgt. Chuck Mascellino of the Cranberry Police Department.

The driver of the car attempted to move in front of the truck and made contact, which caused the car to roll and the truck to swerve into a ditch.

Several police, fire and emergency vehicles were on scene as crews worked to clear the road. According to Chief Dave Mack of the Cranberry Volunteer Fire Company, there were no reported injuries. One lane of traffic was maintained as crews worked to clear the scene, and a street-sweeper was brought in to clear glass from the road.

The box truck was removed from the ditch and the scene was cleared by about 8:20 a.m., Mack said.

Mascellino said police are still investigating the matter, though the driver of the car likely will be cited.
