SAXONBURG — The South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., is having an end-of-the-year book clearance sale. Books are half price through Jan. 31.

The library will be closed Saturday, Monday, Dec. 30 and Jan. 1.

[naviga:h3]Safe driving courses offered[/naviga:h3]

Seniors for Safe Driving will host the following classes for those age 55 and older:

5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 9, Kelly Chevrolet, 252 Pittsburgh Road, Butler

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 11, Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA, Cranberry Township

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 17, Concordia, Haven II, Cabot

8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 19, Butler Memorial Hospital

Seniors completing the course will receive a 5 percent reduction in their automobile insurance premiums for three years.

[naviga:h3]Snow Creations deadline set[/naviga:h3]

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will accept entries for its Snow Creations contest until March 19.

Entries should include a photograph of the snow creation; the creator’s name, address, phone number and email; and the date. Multiple entries are allowed for individuals and families.

Send entries to Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, Snow Creations, 184 Alameda Park Road, Butler, PA 16001.

Winners will be announced April 2. The contest’s first prize is an Alameda Waterpark family pass. For more information, call 724-284-5383.

[naviga:h3]Library schedules family hangout [/naviga:h3]

SAXONBURG — The South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., will have a family holday hangout from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the library.

Children teens and adults will be able to use 20 kinds of building blocks, puzzles, board games and children’s learning toys. Big-screen children’s holiday movies will run at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Stories and painting to music will be at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be a gift for each family that hangs out.

Notices of local upcoming news should be received by the Community Department one week in advance of the event. Entries should include the name and phone number of the person providing the information and be sent to: P.O. Box 271, Butler, PA 16003, or community@butlereagle.com.
