Cresco Yeltrah gets OK to grow medical marijuana

Company co-founded by Butler residents

BROOKVILLE — A medical marijuana company with ties to Butler County is the first group to receive state approval to begin grow operations.

Cresco Yeltrah announced Tuesday that it has received permission to begin growing and processing marijuana as part of the state’s medical marijuana program. The company said it was already constructing a “state-of-the-art” cultivation center and laboratory in northwest Brookville, Jefferson County.

The company, which was co-founded by Butler County residents Trent and Kent Hartley in partnership with Chicago-based Cresco Labs and Colorado-based Denver Relief Consulting, said its growing and processing plant would encompass 40,000 square feet and will grow more than 30 strains of marijuana and produce “a unique array” of pharmaceutical-grade products that include vapor oils, transdermal patches and pills. The company plans to have its complete line of products available statewide by February.

“Providing relief to patients across the state as quickly as possible is our focus,” said co-founder Charlie Bachtell in a written statement.

The company also previously won a permit to build medical marijuana dispensaries. It plans to locate them in Butler County, Pittsburgh’s strip district, and a third location the company hasn’t identified yet.

Earlier this year the state Department of Health awarded 12 grower-processor permits and 27 dispensary permits after evaluating 457 applications.
