Death may be overdose

26-year-old found at halfway house

A 26-year-old Butler County man died Saturday of a suspected drug overdose at a Butler halfway house, authorities said.

Saige A. Knapp of Cabot was pronounced dead at the scene at the home in the 400 block of West New Castle Street.

An autopsy was performed but a cause of death is still pending results of toxicology tests, which won’t be available for several weeks, said Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr.

Knapp’s roommate called 911 after he returned home about 9 p.m. and found the victim unresponsive in the bathroom. It appeared Knapp had been dead for between eight to 12 hours, authorities said.

The roommate told investigators that he had last seen Knapp about 7 or 8 a.m. Saturday when he left the home.

Police said they found between six and 10 empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, a syringe and spoon near the body.

According to the Butler County Prison, Knapp had been released from the facility April 11 after being held there on a probation violation.
