Jeanna Sybert

PITTSBURGH — Jeanna Sybert, a communication and political science major at the University of Pittsburgh, received a Brackenridge Research Fellowship from the University Honors College.

The fellowship provides a $3,500 stipend. Her research will study the power of images to impact public opinion and policy initiatives.

Sybert, a senior and the daughter of Steve and Donna Sybert of Middlesex Township, also was honored as a University Scholar at the Pitt Honors Convocation for ranking in the top 2 percent of students in the Dietrich College of Arts and Sciences.

She is president of Lambda Pi Eta, Pitt's chapter of the National Communication Association Honor Society, and served on the executive board of the Pitt College Democrats.

JACKSON TWP — Urvi Gupta, a senior at Seneca Valley High School, recently was named a National Merit Scholarship winner. She also received a P.E.O. STAR Scholarship.

Gupta is one of 2,500 Merit Scholar designees chosen from 15,000 finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. She received the scholarship for her accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. More than 1.6 million juniors from 22,000 high schools took the PSAT/NMSQT which serves as the initial screen for the program.

Gupta received the 2017 P.E.O. STAR Scholarship for her academic achievements and for leadership and service to her school and community.

JACKSON TWP — Sara Lozito, a Seneca Valley High School senior, received a 2017 GE STAR Award and a scholarship for education expenses.Lozito received the scholarship for academic excellence, extracurricular success and community activities. Eligible applicants are family members of individuals who have been employed by GE.The program also granted an award to Jim Lucot, senior high school social studies teacher, who was nominated by Lozito.

———MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Sara Mantick of Zelienople received the U.S. Public Health Service Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award and the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy Leadership Scholarship. She also received a President's Volunteer Service Award for completing more than 100 hours of service to the community.Mantick graduated magna cum laude with a doctoral degree from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. She completed the Area of Emphasis in Advanced Clinical Practice program through the WVU School of Pharmacy.She also was a leader and member of numerous organizations for pharmacy students and several pharmacy honor societies.Mantick presented her research poster, “Readmission Rates due to Adverse Drug Reactions Associated with Inappropriate Antipsychotic Continuation on Discharge from the ICU,” at the 2016 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition and at the 2017 College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists Annual Convention.She is the daughter of Mark and Carla Mantick and a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.—–—PITTSBURGH — James Begley recently received a College Chemistry Award from the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh.Begley was selected by chemistry department faculty at Slippery Rock University where he is a senior majoring in chemistry.The society noted his demonstrated excellence in performance and high achievements in the field of chemistry. The award includes a monetary prize and a certificate.Begley also was recognized with a monetary award presented to the Slippery Rock University library in his honor. An engraved nameplate will be added to a plaque in the chemistry department listing prior SACP winners.Begley is the son of Brian and Jeanene Begley and a 2012 graduate of Seneca Valley High School.———
