Trojan lacrosse reaches semifinals
Chris Virostek scored on the first possession of overtime to lift Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic’s boys lacrosse team to an 11-10 victory over Moon in Thursday’s WPIAL Class AA quarterfinal playoff at Quaker Valley High School.
Alex Culbertson led the Trojans (12-4) with five goals.
Shady Side Academy 12, Seneca Valley 11 — The Indians scored two goals in the final minute to upend the Raiders in this WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinal playoff at Pine-Richland High School.
Dan Rupert paced SV (14-6) with six goals, Grant Alexander had three assists and goalie Brady Moze made six saves.
Baseball
Dylan Dingel had two base hits with four RBI and was also the winning pitcher in Slippery Rock’s 12-2 victory at Maplewood.
Derek Van Dyke, Patrick Busa and Nick Stutz each drove in two runs for the Rockets (17-2).

Karns City 10, Redbank Valley 4 — Jace Ebbitt singled, tripled and collected three RBI for the Gremlins (14-5), who plated nine runs in the second inning.
Tyler Yough was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and no walks in a complete game. He added a single, triple and two RBIs at the plate.
Colton Hutchison contributed three base hits and a run batted in and Cullen Williams singled and tripled.
Softball
Moniteau closed the regular season with a 6-1 home triumph against Franklin.
Gabby Stewart and Kristina DeMatteis both homered for the undefeated Warriors (19-0).
Kennedy DeMatteis earned the win with 10 strikeouts and five hits allowed in seven innings.
