BC3 adds 49 new camps

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College announced Monday that it is adding 49 new camps to its Kids on Campus initiative, bringing the total number of summer enrichment programs to 107 for this year.

Among the 49 new offerings are camps in which children can learn how to make minimovies with LEGOS and clay, and a camp for students in grades 6 through 12 that will focus on how to make and program a robot to complete a series of challenges.

The Kids on Campus initiative runs from June 26 through Aug. 10, and brings at least 200 students onto BC3's campus each week.

The most popular of the camps are expected to be those that make science fun, said Eva Lowerre, the Kids on Campus coordinator.

“It's all hands-on,” Lowerre said. “Students are actually doing everything. So they are the ones who are actually making everything happen.”

There are fees associated with Kids on Campus activities, and an open house for the initiative will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 31, in the lobby of Succop Theater on BC3's main campus.
