Oscar R. Sasse, Sr.

Oscar R. Sasse, Sr., 82, of Butler, passed away on Tuesday.

He was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Butler to the late Otto Sasse and the late Rae “Nancy” Suvlett.

Mr. Sasse, Sr. worked as a construction worker at the nuclear plant in Shippingport. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Mr. Sasse, Sr. enjoyed woodworking, and loved his cat, Skiddles. He loved to read, especially to his grandchildren. Mr. Sasse, Sr. was a member of the YMCA and the public library.

Mr. Sasse, Sr. is survived by two daughters, Tiffany Fundark and her husband Ronald of Butler and Sherrie Shriver of Florida; two sons, Oscar R. Sasse, Jr. of Lyndora and Paul Shriver of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; five brothers, Francis Sasse and his wife Joyce of Butler, his twin, Jay Sasse and his wife Sue, John Sasse of Eau Claire, Norman Sasse of Sandy Lake, Pa., and Chuck Sasse and his wife Jean of Butler; three sisters, Weneda Weitzel of Butler, Jean Sasse of Florida and Nancy Polkey and her husband Wayne of West Virginia.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna Boring Sasse, who he married on Aug. 23, 1967, and who passed away in 1976; and one brother, Donald Sasse.

SASSE — Family and friends of Oscar R. Sasse, Sr., who died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, will be received at 6 p.m. Tuesday until the memorial service at 8 p.m. at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, by the Rev. Paul Fish.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 117 Butler, the American Legion Post 778 Lyndora, and the VFW Post 249, will conduct military honors at the funeral home following the service.Memorials are suggested to the YMCA, 339 N.
