Western Pa. Crops Day set Feb. 23 at the Atrium

Looking for the latest information on crop production in Western Pennsylvania? Then mark your calendar for the Western Pennsylvania Crops Day on Feb. 23 at the Atrium along Route 422 near Prospect, about 7 miles west of Butler.

Registration and viewing of commercial exhibits will begin at 9 a.m. The program will start at 9:15 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

This year’s program will feature the following speakers and topics.

- Sjoerd Duiker, Penn State soil management specialist, will discuss “Integrating Crops & Livestock” and “Cover Crops for Summer and Winter to Improve Soil & Feed Livestock.”

- Jessica Williamson, Penn State forage specialist, will present “Soil pH and Forage Quality & Yield” and “The Advantages of Baleage.”

- Joel Hunter, Extension agronomy educator, will present “What’s New in Weed Control” and “Soybean Management Highlights.”

- Rounding out the day’s program will be a discussion on “PGP Corn Marketing Options” by Brian Kelly, corn merchandiser, and “More Pasture & Fewer Inputs” by Russ Wilson of Wilson Land & Cattle Company.

Pending final approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the meeting will qualify for one update credit for core for those with a pesticide applicator’s license.

The cost of the meeting is $15 per person before Feb. 16 and $20 at the door, space permitting. The fee includes refreshments and lunch.
