Beveridge gets 1st at SRU Invitational

Butler runners get 2nd overall

Butler’s Noah Beveridge completed the course in 16 minutes, 26 seconds Saturday at Cooper’s Lake in becoming the overall winner of the Slippery Rock Cross Country Invitational.

The Golden Tornado’s Brett Brady placed eighth overall in 17:02 to earn a medal. Aden Dressler and Robbie Hays placed 21st and 22nd, respectively, for Butler.

“Noah Beveridge took control of the race about mid-way through and built a 22-second lead to the finish for the overall win,” Butler coach Rick Davenzati said.

Mount Lebanon won the 24-team event on the boys side with 55 points. Butler finished second with 109. Knoch was 10th, Freeport 14th and Mars 20th.

Freeport’s Johnathan Assay was fifth in the boys race in 16:56 while Knoch’s Max Freyermuth was seventh in 17 minutes.

There were 336 total runners.

On the girls side, Butler finished sixth among 18 teams with 172 points. Knoch finished ninth and Mars 10th. Chambersburg won the meet with 82 points.

The Tornado’s Maggie Welty placed second overall with a time of 19:25, 19 seconds behind winner Abby Yourkavitch of Chambersburg. Butler’s Erin Lemay was 18th overall.

“Maggie Welty ran a strong race throughout, gradually moving from fifth at the three-fourth mile mark to second just after the mile,” Davanzati said.

Emma Gentile placed 24th overall for Mars and Rachael Wittmer was 26th overall for Knoch.

Girls Soccer

Haley Sherer scored three goals as Karns City girls downed Blackhawk 4-1 Saturday.

Collette Stahlman also scored for the Gremlins.

Golf

A-C Valley/Union’s Kolby Montgomery shot a two-day score of 167 to place third at the District 9 Class AA Championships.

Moniteau’s Weston Kimmey shot a 171 to place fourth.

Both Montomery and Kimmey advanced to the PIAA Western qualifier.

Football

Summit Academy downed OLSH 26-20 Saturday. No other information was available.
