Officials identify woman who fatally shot herself in Zelienople

ZELIENOPLE — Officials have identified a woman who fatally shot herself on a Main Street sidewalk.

Zelienople police said Elizabeth Adams, 35, of Portersville shot herself with a handgun about 11:45 a.m. in front of Mathew Jewelers on the north side of Main Street.

Authorities believe she died immediately. She was taken from the scene by Harmony EMS. Butler County Chief Deputy Coroner, John Hanovick a short time later pronounced her dead.

Hanovick, said she died of a gunshot wound to head.

Miller said the gun, a semiautomatic pistol, was recovered at the scene. He did not identify the caliber or say who owned it.
