Butler Police9 a.m. Thursday — Brandon A. Williams, 20, of Oakland Township allegedly stole a stereo system out of a car in the 500 block of State Street.Police were notified after the victims, Aaron and Jason Conklin, caught Williams in the vehicle at the Conklin home. Aaron Conklin knew Williams because he had earlier shown his car to the defendant.The alleged thief is accused of taking a Sony stereo, speakers and amplifier valued at a combined $270, before driving away with an unknown woman.Police charged Williams with theft.Thursday — Mark L. Murphy, 56, of Butler was charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession in connection with a traffic stop June 5 in the 400 block of Liberty Street.Police pulled over Murphy for a traffic violation and found he was wanted on a bench warrant. He admitted he had heroin in his car.When police searched the car, which had a can of beer in the center console, they found 50 stamp bags of suspected heroin.Murphy is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, driving with an open container of alcohol and driving on the wrong side of the road.Thursday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Eric J. Zmijowski. 35, of Butler stemming from a confrontation with officers earlier this month at Franklin and Locust streets.Zmijowski was spotted walking about 5:20 p.m. June 9. Police knew he was already wanted on at least a pair of bench warrants and tried to arrest him. But he pulled away, as an officer tried to place him in handcuffs.He fled, running away through several backyards. Police, along with the department's K-9 officer, searched for Zmijowski but they could not find him.Police are seeking him on a new charge of resisting arrest as well as the previously issued bench warrants.Wednesday — Police charged Benjamin L. Cahall, 34, of Concord Township with misdemeanor drug possession after he was arrested on a warrant earlier this month at South Main and Cunningham streets.Police knew Cahall was wanted on the warrants for a pair of shoplifting-related incidents in May and June in the city when they stopped him about 5:30 p.m. June 10 walking near downtown.He was searched and found with six stamp bags of suspected heroin. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance.11:18 p.m. June 13 — Cheyenne A. Karch, 39, of Butler Township was arrested after she was found impaired by drugs in the 300 block of South Monroe Street. Police had gone there for a report of an intoxicated woman.Officers learned that Karch was wanted by state police on an arrest warrant for driving under the influence of drugs last year in Rayburn Township, Armstrong County.City police searched Karch's purse and found three stamp bags of suspected heroin, three syringes and other drug contraband.She is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and public drunkenness.Karch later was placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $2,500 bail in connection with the drugged driving case there.
Butler Twp Police8:56 p.m. Friday — Joseph E. Parison Jr., 49, of Cranberry Township was caught with suspected drugs after he was found intoxicated outside a business on Benbrook Road. Parison is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and public drunkenness.11:54 a.m. June 14 — No injuries were reported in a four-vehicle wreck on New Castle Road at Point Plaza that started when a car driven by Dakota S. Gray, 19, of Petrolia rear-ended another vehicle, causing it to smash into traffic in front of it.Police said Gray was driving at an unsafe speed.The other drivers were Tricia McGonigle, 50, and Megan O'Shaughnessy, 30, both of Butler, and Stephanie Clark, 42, of Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County.
Grove City Police5:20 a.m. Sunday — A thief stole a wallet from an unlocked vehicle in the 500 block of Craig Street. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.Police remind owners to lock their vehicles at all times.9:09 p.m. Friday — Ryan M. Dugan, 25, of Grove City was arrested after he allegedly tried to urinate outside during a confrontation with police in the 600 block of Barmore Avenue. He is charged with open lewdness, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
State Police, ButlerFriday — Richard E. Jones Jr., 21, of Connoquenessing Township was charged with sending threatening text messages earlier this month to a woman at her home on Brown Road in Center Township.The alleged victim, Courtney L. Ferguson, who identified Jones as her boyfriend's cousin, said the defendant June 9 sent her several ominous texts, including one in which he threatened to shoot her.When police later questioned Jones, he admitted sending the texts but claimed they were intended for his cousin, documents said.He is charged with terroristic threats and harassment.
State Police, Kittanning9:26 p.m. Friday — A 38-year-old Templeton woman, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a crash on River Road in Boggs Township. Charges are pending the results of lab tests.
