1 injured in explosion
SALEM TWP, Westmoreland County — A gas explosion that happened just before 9 a.m. today injured at least one person.
The explosion happened at Route 22 and Route 819, according to reports. People in the immediate area were evacuated, and the state police shut down Route 819, and they made Route 22 into just one lane.
The injury severity is unknown, but a medical helicopter was dispatched, it was reported.
While the explosion has been identified as gas-related, it was not immediately known if the cause was at a well or a pipeline.
The state Department of Environmental Protection was notified of the explosion, according to reports.
