Prospect teen earns highest honor
Gina McKinney, 18, of Girl Scout Troop 20863 received the Gold Award in September to finish her 12-year scouting career.
She is the daughter of Scott and Bev McKinney of Prospect.
McKinney’s Gold Award project consisted of two parts. First, she read and recorded the names of more than 600 graves in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery. She mapped them and installed a permanent display for visitors. Second, she organized and conducted a card making event for the community-members at the VA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
McKinney previously earned her Bronze Award by making quilts for soldiers receiving hospital treatment and her Silver Award by hosting community dinners for the less fortunate in Butler.
A 2015 Slippery Rock High School graduate, Gina attends Butler County Community College.
