Music department gives a free concert

GROVE CITY — The Grove City College Department of Music will have a free concert with the college orchestra and the chamber orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center.

The concert, “American Composers,” features the world premiere of Jeff Lippencott’s “American Hymn,” performed by the orchestra, and the music of well-known and new American composers, including selections from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” music from John Williams’ “Star Wars” film score and “Hometown Miniatures” written by Drew Fennell, the trumpet instructor at Grove City College.

Jeffrey Tedford, director of orchestras at the college, will conduct.

Lippencott is responsible for the music for several television shows including “The Apprentice,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Shark Tank” and “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”

Lippencott also has scored several films.

Fennell is a composer for concert and brass bands as well as orchestras throughout the country. He also is the principal flugelhorn with Pittsburgh’s River City Brass Band.
