Police nab man on warrant

He missed date in court

Butler police Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old man wanted on a warrant for failing to show up for a court hearing in a 2014 child molestation case.

A tip led police about 4 p.m. to an apartment in the 200 block of West Brady Street where they found the suspect, Steven A. Fulmer, 22, of Butler.

He was arrested and placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Authorities had been looking for Fulmer since county Judge Tim McCune on June 26 issued a bench warrant for him after he did not appear for a hearing in last year’s sexual abuse case.

In that case, Butler police accused Fulmer of molesting an 11-year-old girl at a city home.

A caseworker at the Butler County Children and Youth Services agency interviewed the girl, who recounted how Fulmer inappropriately touched her at a house in late September.

Police later interviewed the suspect at the station. He acknowledged being with the child and during the day they tickled one another on the stomach, documents said.

Fulmer recounted that he eventually went to bed by himself and fell asleep. But when he awoke, he claimed he was startled to find the girl lying in the same bed.

“He stated that at this point he may have touched her on her private area (attempting) to get her out of the bed,” a police affidavit said.

He was arrested Oct. 16 and is awaiting trial on charges of aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault without consent, aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 16, aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13, corruption of minors and child endangerment, all felonies.

Additionally, he is charged with the indecent assault without consent and indecent assault of a person less than 16, both misdemeanors.

Following his arrest last year, Fulmer had remained in the county prison $25,000 bail until May 15 when he was released on nonmonetary bail following a hearing, court records showed.
