Change in Middlesex officials to be on ballot

Voters in Middlesex Township will be deciding in the Nov. 4 election whether to increase the board of supervisors from three to five members.

The Butler County commissioners, serving as the county election board, this morning voted to place the item as a referendum on the ballot.

However, action on a request to reduce the number of supervisors in Adams Township from five to three members was delayed.

Shari Brewer, director of county elections bureau, said the person who submitted the petition, Charles Clark, withdrew it due to concerns about a similar referendum in Center Township being overturned in county court in 2013.

The commissioners tabled a decision until county solicitor Mike English could review whether it’s legal to withdraw such a petition.
