Slippery Rock hires new school superintendent

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — The Slippery Rock School District has a new leader.

The school board voted 9-0 on Monday to hire Alfonso Angelucci as superintendent, effective July 1.

“He was our choice, most definitely,” said Mike Scheer, chairman of the superintendent search committee.

Angelucci is the superintendent at the Union School District in Lawrence County, and has been in that position since 2009. Before that, he was the assistant superintendent at the Ellwood City School District from 2003 to 2009.

Union has two school buildings and 800 students while Slippery Rock has four buildings and about 2,000 students.

Angelucci will make $122,000 per year, and he will have a three-year contract.

He got his doctorate in education from Indiana (Pa.) University in 2007. He also has a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Slippery Rock University.

Current Superintendent Kathy Nogay announced in October that she will retire, effective June 30.
