Driver dies in pick up truck crash

BRADY TWP — Investigators suspect alcohol was a contributing factor in a fatal weekend crash in the township.

David J. Malesh, 53, of Clay Township was killed in the one-vehicle wreck late Saturday night.

State police said Malesh was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado south on Route 528 about one mile south of Route 8 shortly before 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of his pickup truck traveling around a curve.

The pickup traveled up an embankment on the east side of the road before returning to the road. The truck crossed both lanes and went off the west side of the road, hitting several trees, according to police and firefighters.

The wreck happened less than 5 miles from Malesh’s home.

“The front end was ripped off and the passenger side door and bed were smashed,” said Chief Greg Brewster of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department.

Malesh, who was not wearing a seat belt, was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters had to take off the truck’s roof and steering column to get him out.

Rescuers said he was alive but unresponsive when a Butler Ambulance Service crew drove him to Butler Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
