Facing sunset

In my growing from a child to a man:

• Ten years of Depression, barter system was prevalent.

• It was a time of innocence, playing cowboys and Indians; having our parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; of losing so many in such a short time.

• Not wanting to grow up, knowing we can never live like that again; can’t hold time, as much as we would have liked. As much as we would have liked; we are grown, even though we are in our teens; never quite ready; no way to escape War.

Now I’m almost 90. It seems so many things happened only yesterday.

When too young to know better, I asked my grandfather, does it bother you to be getting old, will die soon?

He said he was given good health, has more people on the other side than this; when the time comes, he thought he would be ready.

My sentiments.
