County officials to vote on fate of jury commissioner posts
The three county commissioners are set to vote Thursday on whether the two jury commissioner posts will be kept.
Commissioner Bill McCarrier, board chairman, will be the swing vote.
McCarrier said in an interview he hasn’t decided yet how he’ll vote Thursday.
Commissioner Dale Pinkerton wants to cut the part-time posts to save the county money while Commissioner Jim Eckstein maintains they should be kept.
The salaries and benefits for the two jury commissioners are budgeted at more than $71,000 for 2013.
Pinkerton earlier this month proposed cutting the posts due to a new state law enabling counties to make the change even though it’s an election year for jury commissioners.
The commissioners agreed to let Jury Commissioner Clinton Bonetti speak for 10 minutes about why the posts should be retained.
