Truck driver injured in Route 8 crash
MERCER TWP — One driver reportedly was seriously injured this morning when his tractor-trailer was struck by two other trucks at a Route 8 intersection in northern Butler County.
The driver was flown to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in New Castle. His name was not available.
According to the report of an eyewitness, an unidentified woman stopped her southbound car on Route 8 to turn onto Station Road just before 8:30 a.m. when a southbound tractor-trailer swerved to avoid hitting the car and collided with a northbound truck carrying logs.
The log truck went on and hit a bridge that carries railroad tracks over Route 8.
The tractor-trailer then was hit by another southbound truck.
The car was not damaged.
Police closed Route 8, between Boyers Road in the township and Browntown Road in Harrisville.
An advisory from the state Department of Transportation stated that the road should reopen by 1 p.m.
