Vets event recalled
For Veterans Day 2011, I was invited to Bruin Elementary School to help honor all veterans.
As in the past at other locations around Butler County, I put my Killed In Action Tribute display together, went home and returned a couple of days later for the school’s open house.
It was very nice to visit with faculty and parents that evening. I returned the following morning for the students’ program honoring our country’s veterans.
They had all of the veterans and their families sit together. After introductions, we were treated to one of the best programs I ever attended.
The students really made us feel welcome and proud to be veterans.
Even now, almost a year later, I have fond recollections of that celebration and believe thanks continue to be in order, especially to those Bruin Elementary students.
I later received a donation in the mail that I used for ink, paper and research.
“Patriotism” is a word I’ll never tire of.
