Monday — Joseph T. McGuire, 37, of Burnham, Mifflin County, was charged with bouncing three checks, totaling $251.43, at the Friedman's supermarket between Jan. 21 and 24, 2011. McGuire is charged with three counts of bad checks.Grove City PoliceAug. 30 — Daniel B. Mortland, 26, of Volant was arrested after he allegedly stole copper from Cooper Industrial Commons on Lincoln Avenue. Mortland is charged with felony theft.

2 a.m. Sunday — Justin E. McKivigan, 27, of Butler Township was caught allegedly stealing scrap metal from RBW Technologies, Inc. on Hartmann Road.Police were called after someone reported a suspicious vehicle in back of the recycling business. Officers got there and found the suspect's sport utility vehicle with its back opened up and a rectangular metal bar inside.Additionally, police said, duct tape covered the SUV's license plate.Police a short time later nabbed McKivigan, who was hiding nearby. Police said he admitted taking the scrap.He is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, illegally displaying a license plate, possessing instruments of crime, driving with a suspended license and trying to obscure his license plate.

8:30 p.m. Aug. 25 — Michael T. Parison Jr., 31, of Allison Park was charged with possession of a controlled substance and Stephanie Crawford, 31, also of Allison Park, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop at the intersection of Fisher Road and Water Street. Parison, the driver, also was charged with running a stop sign. Parison admitted taking a Morphine pill and having another Morphine pill and two Oxycodone pills in the vehicle without a valid prescription. Crawford admitted lighting up a “joint” just prior to the traffic stop. Police found rolling papers for marijuana in her possession.

5:05 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Charles E. Kreinbucher, 36, of Butler struck a deer on Route 422 about one-half mile east of Moran Road in Clearfield Township.Monday — A suspected hit-and-run driver faces seven tickets stemming from a two-vehicle crash last week that ended with a car on top of a sport utility vehicle in Winfield Township.Police said Brock A. Simpson, 24, of East Brady, Clarion County, was eastbound about 1:40 a.m. Sept. 19 when he lost control of his speeding 2006 Chevrolet Impala. The car went off the road, traveled into a home's driveway and hit a 1997 Jeep Wrangler.The car spun into a tree and landed atop the Jeep, according to a police report. Simpson, who was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, allegedly fled the scene.Winfield Township volunteer firefighters assisted police during the call.Police later found Simpson, who was cited for hit-and-run, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, abandoning a vehicle on a road, driving without valid inspection, driving at an unsafe speed, driving on the wrong side of the road and careless driving.Sunday — Melissa L. Mann, 30, of Grove City was arrested after contacting a 35-year-old man at his home on Clay Street in Marion Township in violation of a protection from abuse order. Mann, who is charged with indirect criminal contempt, was placed in Butler County Prison following her arrest.Sunday — An Alpine stereo unit, a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses and two pairs of Nike football spikes were stolen from a vehicle in the guest parking lot at University Apartments in Slippery Rock Township. The theft happened between 5 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday.9:31 p.m. Saturday — Jody Madison, 42, of New Castle was cited for trespass after he showed up at Slippery Rock High School in Slippery Rock Township. Police noted that Madison previously was barred from attending games and practices affiliated with the Slippery Rock Youth Football group.5:55 p.m. Sept. 19 — Robert J. Sirich, 76, of Butler was hurt when a car struck the pickup truck he was driving at Routes 68 and 268 in Fairview Township. Sirich, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.Police said Matthew J. Puskarich, 28, of Kittanning, who was driving the car, was cited for a stop sign violation.
