Polanec, McLafferty
Laura Polanec and Jason McLafferty, both of Pittsburgh, were united in marriage May 2 at Springwood in Verona, Pa. The Rev. Cassandra Sutton officiated. A reception followed at Springwood.
The bride is the daughter of Gary and Frances Polanec of Hudson, N.H. Parents of the bridegroom are Bob and Kay McLafferty of Butler.
The honor attendant was Tanya Lucio of Pittsburgh. Bridesmaids included Saba Jafri of Jacksonville, Fla., Erin McLafferty of Pittsburgh, Helen Williams of Worcester, mass., and Kim Polanec of Concord, N.H. The flower girl was Colleen McLafferty.
Performing the duties of best man was Steve Mekis of Fenelton. Ushers included Rick Oesterling of Butler, Charles Utz of Erie, Eric Rossi of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ryan Saul of Greenville. The ringer bearer was Zachary Slenker-Smith.
The bride is a 2002 graduate of Alvirne High School in Hudson and a 2006 graduate of Penn State University. She will graduate in May from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School.
The bridegroom graduated in 1997 from Butler High School and in 2008 from Penn State University, where he received a doctorate in material science and engineering. He is employed as a research consultant at Canadian Auto Preservation in Hartville, Ohio.
Following a honeymoon trip to Disneyworld in Orlando, Fla., the couple is making their home in Pittsburgh.
