Redevelopment authority buys Penn Theater
The Redevelopment Authority of Butler has bought the Penn Theater.
In a news release, Perry O'Malley, the authority's executive director, said the authority plans to restore the "Art Deco facility to a performing arts center."
The authority bought the building from the Penn Theater Trust with a $250,000 loan from the Landmarks Community Capital Corp., a nonprofit organization that provides capital and assistance to low- and moderate-income communities in Western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and West Virginia.
O'Malley said renovations to the theater on Main Street are estimated at $3 million.
He said a year of fundraising will be needed before any construction can take place.
