Husband killed in shooting

He and wife had argument at camp

TIONESTA TWP, Forest County — A Butler County woman is jailed on charges she fatally shot her husband late Saturday night during an argument at the couple's camp here.

State police arrested Ruth Maxine Angert, 58, of Clearfield Township soon after she allegedly shot 68-year-old Larry Bruce Angert with a handgun.

Investigators believe the two were struggling over the gun when it went off, hitting Larry Angert in the head about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a camp on Tubbs Run Lane.

Ruth Angert was arraigned on a general count of homicide and a charge of aggravated assault. She is in the Forest County prison on $150,000 bail.

State police at the Marienville barracks said the Angerts got into an argument that escalated when the defendant brandished a handgun.

Police did not immediately know what sparked the argument.

The gun was discharged as the couple battled for control of it in the camp's living room-kitchen area, authorities said.

Forest County Coroner Norman Wimer pronounced Larry Angert dead at the scene at 11:46 p.m. Saturday. The cause of death is listed as a gunshot wound.

An autopsy was planned for this morning.

Wimer declined further comment but indicated that investigators do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the shooting.

Angert's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 27 at the office of District Judge George Gregory in Tionesta.

Butler County Court records, meanwhile, revealed the Angerts were married in 2006.
