High temperatures to stay in mid to low 30’s through next week
Thanksgiving saw temperatures that were on the “lower end” of local averages, according to a National Weather Service of Pittsburgh meteorologist.
On Friday, Nov. 28, Jason Frazier said the cold would likely stay through the weekend and that Butler County could see small amounts of snow before a warm system moves in on Sunday.
“We’ve had Thanksgiving with colder temperatures, but this year was still on lower end,” meteorologist Jason Frazier said.
The average high in Pittsburgh this time of year is 46 degrees, he said, but the average this year came in around 34 degrees.
“We’re averaging 10 to 12 degrees below the average high temperature,” he said. “It’s a little lower in Butler, but a similar story, in the lower end.”
On Saturday, for the Butler Spirit of Christmas Parade, chilly conditions are expected early, but snow could become rain during the day.
“Precipitation will start as snow, but warm air will move into the area,” he said. “There’s a lot of variability depending on how early it comes in, the longer the cold air could stay in place, the higher a chance of snow.”
Friday was a particularly windy day with wind gusts consistantly around 20 to 25 mph, Frazier said he wouldn’t be surprised if wind gusts got to 30, maybe 35 mph at times.
Frazier said the NWS wants people to know they will see on-and-off showers, and to beware there can be reduced visibility. He also said roads can be a bit slick.
“We’re cold; it will stay cold on Saturday, and it will warm up a little bit on Sunday, even if we start Sunday with snow,” Frazier said. “On Tuesday, we’ll be back to temperatures we’re seeing right now.
“At this point over the course of the next seven days, it’s likely temperatures hover in the mid to low 30’s, it will stay in this pattern through the work week.”
