PennDOT prepares for winter weather
The state Department of Transportation is preparing its winter services as inclement weather enters the forecast.
PennDOT said in a news release that weather reports and ground conditions are actively monitored to plan how to best treat each storm. Treatments will vary based on temperature, precipitation type and traffic volume.
PennDOT is also reminding drivers to drive safely by following tips such as turning on low beams, turning off cruise control on snowy roads and keeping an ice scraper in your car.
Roads will not be treated prior to a storm when a storm is predicted to start. Rain will wash away salt residue. Roads will not be free of snow while precipitation is falling. With freezing temperatures, roads that look wet may actually be icy, and extra caution is needed when approaching bridges and highway ramps where ice can form without warning.
