In quite convincing fashion, Karns City’s softball team rebounded from a lopsided season-opening loss Monday by beating Clarion-Limestone, 16-1, in four innings at home Wednesday.

Shortstop Lyrik Reed, pitcher Addison Burrows, backstop Jessica Dunn, first baseman Haley Sherman, and outfielders Bailey O’Donnell and Jada Polczynski had multi-hit performances as the Gremins totaled 16 base knocks.

Burrows went the distance in the circle, conceding five hits, while punching out five and walking three. C-L notched its only run in the third frame.

Trailing Ambridge 7-3, Karns City tallied six of its nine hits in a six-run bottom of the sixth to post a 9-7 win at Pullman Park.

Mallick Metcalfe singled and doubled for the Gremlins, Wyatt Fleming singled twice and both players drove in two runs.

Track and Field

Adah Fuller (100-meter dash), Brooke Galcik (800-meter dash), Ava Santora (3,200-meter run), Madison Hunt (shot put), and Kendall Loos (long jump) all finished first in individual events as Knoch opened its season with a 93-57 win over Mars.

Fuller and Loos joined Macrina Robb and Aubry Savannah to come out on top in the 4x100 relay.

Boys Tennis

Knoch defeated Highlands on the road, 3-2, after dropping the first two singles matches. I. Brace won the third 6-3, 6-2, before the pairings of M. Hoffman and H. Hughes and D. Frye and K. Kleist swept doubles action.

Pine-Richland 4, Butler 1 — Andrew Bocci was the Golden Tornado’s only singles winner. He downed Adam Fink 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles. Ben Busler fell short against Ryan Moore 1-6, 2-6, and Jackson Morgus to Yash Shah 2-6, 2-6.

The Rams swept the doubles matches.

Mars 5, North Hills 0 — Josh Dunham won the second set of first singles in a tiebreaker. No other details were available.

Sewickley Academy 4, Seneca Valley 1 — Mark Evelsizer defeated Jonathan Varghese 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles, but the Panthers won the other two singles matches and swept doubles.

The Raiders are 3-2 on the season.

Boys Volleyball

Butler was swept by Greater Latrobe in three sets — the scores being 25-20, 25-14, and 25-23. The Golden Tornado (1-1) hosts North Allegheny Thursday.
