Freeport boys cage Lions

‘Jackets have big 1st period in rout

Freeport exploded for 24 points in the opening quarter and cruised to a 68-41 boys basketball victory Tuesday against Greensburg Salem.

Zach Clark’s 17 points led the playoff-bound Yellowjackets (12-8, 4-5) while Brady Sullivan chipped in 13 points and Gavin Croney 10.

Mars 79, Chartiers Valley 77 — The Planets withstood a late rally by the Colts to improve to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in section play.

Mars’ Tasso Sfanos continued his great senior campaign with 35 points. Jayden Davis dropped 50 points for Chartiers Valley, which scored 35 points in the final eight minutes.

Karns City 63, Marion Center 32 — Shane Peters scored 18 points and Taite Beighley added 14 as the Gremlins (17-3) rolled to victory Monday night. Karns City outscored Marion Center 34-9 in the second quarter.
