Freeport’s DeZort joins 1,000-point club

Freeport’s Melaina DeZort surpassed 1,000 points by pouring in a team-high 17 against Derry Monday night. The Yellowjackets (8-13, 4-7) won the girls basketball matchup, 54-20, as Morgan Croney added 14 points.

Union 36, Forest Area 30 — The Damsels faced a four-point deficit at halftime, but Cheyenne Dowling’s 14 points helped them to a road win.

Knoch 57, Valley 24 — Four girls reached double-digits for the surging Knights in this rout. Hattie McGraw led the pack with 16 points, while Megan Vasas (14), Nina Shaw (11), and Naturelle Ewing (10) also played big parts on offense. Knoch improved its record to 14-6 and 9-2 in Section 1-4A play.

Swimming

Slippery Rock’s girls swimming team pushed its record to 9-0 with a 122-47 win over Sharon. Mollie Massella (200 freestyle), Gracie Olshanski (200 IM, 100 freestyle), Season Grant (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke), and Tessa Szymanski (100 butterfly) notched individual victories.

On the boys side, the Rockets lost, 100-44, to the Tigers.
