Butler City police have accused two people of breaking into a soap dispenser at a laundromat one day after they were charged for a similar instance.

Curtis M. Maciel, 33, of Butler, and Bella R. Burk, 24, of Grove City, were charged Wednesday with felonies burglary and criminal conspiracy, misdemeanor theft and summary criminal mischief for the Jan. 23 incident.

Police said surveillance footage showed two people, later identified as Maciel and Burk, enter a laundromat on West North Street around 8:05 p.m.

According to documents, Burk was seen prying open a soap dispenser and taking approximately $30 in quarters.

The laundromat’s owner told police it would cost $300 to fix the dispenser.

Burk and Maciel are facing similar charges for a separate incident. In this case, Maciel cut locks on dryer boxes in an apartment building laundry room to gain access to the money, police said.

According to documents, Burk moved about the room, eventually noticing a security camera toward the ceiling. Police said she then cut the wires on the camera.

The affidavit did not specify how much money was taken in this case. The damage to the camera and locks amounted to $120, police said.

For the Wednesday charges, Burk and Maciel will appear Feb. 13 before District Judge William Fullerton.

Both are in Butler County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail each.
