Donations being accepted for Zelie family who lost everything in fire

Preliminary investigations say the fire that destroyed a Zelienople townhome and damaged the adjacent units started in a vehicle parked in the driveway, according to the building owner. Cary Shaffer/Butler Eagle

The Murray Agency in Zelienople received a mountain of clothing for the man and his young children who were displaced by a fire in their townhouse last Thursday in the Timberbrook plan.

Pat Murray, agency owner who also owns several multifamily units in that neighborhood, is taking donations of gift cards and money only for the family.

Charitable Zelienople residents have dropped off numerous clothing items for the family, said a woman who answered the phone at the agency on Tuesday.

Checks and gift cards can be hand delivered between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to the Murray Agency at 223 S. Main St. in Zelienople.

Sandi Cox, who owns the townhouse where the fire occurred, said the family had just moved in a month ago and escaped the home with only the clothes on their back.

She and firefighters entered the home the next day to retrieve keys, documents and a few personal items, she said.

The family is staying in an apartment in Butler on a month-to-month basis for now, Cox said.
