Second-grade students from Knoch Primary School visited Freedom Farms and the Saxonburg Museum on Tuesday during a field trip.

Museum curator Fred Caesar shared with the students facts regarding the borough’s rich history, including John Roebling and his invention of wire rope.

Students posed with Caesar and William Gillespie, Saxonburg mayor, under the museum’s outdoor replica of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The 6,000-square-foot museum contains hundreds of Saxonburg artifacts plus items from several time periods in America.

The visit was the first field trip presentation at the museum for Caesar, who said the 185 students were well-behaved and very inquisitive about the artifacts on display.
