McClellan 5th at West Penn Open

Butler resident Rob McClellan carded a 2-over par 74 Wednesday during the final round of the 54-hole West Penn Open, tying for fifth in the event hosted by The Club at Nevillewood.

Neal Shipley, an amateur from Pittsburgh, shot a 5-under 67 Wednesday to win the event with an overall score of 8-under 208. Alex Stopperich of Venetia was second with a 210, two strokes back.

McClellan, the Director of Golf at Slippery Rock Golf Club, began the final round with a two-stroke lead over Devin Gee of Oakmont. He shot a 4-under par 68 during Tuesday’s second round. Gee and McClellan both finished with a 4-under par 212.

Shipley’s 67 on Wednesday marked the lowest round of the tournament. It was matched by Cranberrry Township’s Easton Renwick, who shot a 67 Wednesday. He finished 12th after entering the final round with a 6-over par 150.

Brett Young of Bethel Park and Mike Van Sickle tied for third with a 5-under par 211.
